White Wedding Theme

Photo: Project Wedding

As the world watched the royal wedding procession, some were surprised to see maid of honor Pippa Middleton and the young bridal party wearing white bridesmaid dresses. This immediately sparked a new wedding trend for modern brides. Replicas of Pippa Middleton’s gown hit stores after her white bridesmaid dress debuted – it was an instant hit!

The monochromatic scheme looks stunning and the bride can easily stand out with few key accessories, like a veil, tiara, bridal belt and bold wedding shoes. Kate Middleton’s wedding dress boasted a fuller skirt, long train, lace sleeves and more detailed design, while Pippa Middleton’s white bridesmaid dress conveyed a simpler style that gave nod to her role without stealing the spotlight from the bride.

Not brave enough or still unsure about having white bridesmaid dresses? Try a subtle hue like the champagne gowns pictured below. Another popular wedding trend is to have the bridesmaids wear different styles down the aisle. With various style white bridesmaids gowns, the bride will certainly stand out as she enters the ceremony. Shop for white Pantone accessories, white bridal shoes and white bridesmaid accessories at Advantage Bridal where we offer everything but the dress!

1936 Cartier Halo Tiara

Thank you, Duchess of Cambridge, for showing how a tiara can transform a bride into a modern royal. Royal bride Catherine Middleton wore a sparkling “halo” tiara as she revealed her bridal ensemble to the world on April 29. Who could keep their eyes off the gorgeous, ornate 1936 Cartier tiara? We couldn’t!

The Queen graciously allowed Prince William’s bride to wear the diamond encrusted tiara, which was purchased by The Duke of York (later King George VI) for his Duchess (later Queen Elizabeth).  The tiara was presented to Princess Elizabeth (now The Queen) on her 18th birthday.

Regardless of budget, any bride-to-be can caputure the look of regal elegance on her wedding day, whether it be a rhinestone tiara or pearl tiara. Pair it with a veil for instant glamour. Advantage Bridal carries tiaras for all occasions, such as a wedding, sweet 16 party, Quinceañera or beauty pageant. Our selection of wedding tiaras include stately pieces, as well as understated styles, for brides and flower girls. From head to toe, walk down the aisle looking like a princess bride.

Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue

Vintage Style Couture Lace Bridal Garter

It’s fun to incorporate meaningful elements into your wedding, such as “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe.” Subtle details can fulfill this traditional bridal saying that is thought to be bring the bride good luck and a long, happy marriage. “Something old” symbolizes continuity with the bride’s family and the past while moving to the next chapter.

Ideas for something old:

Family heirlooms, antique pieces, vintage relics or sentimental objects can fill the “something old” wedding tradition.

Look to moms, aunts, grandparents or someone close to you for trinkets that you can use in your wedding, like a handkerchief or charm wrapped around your bouquet.

Wear a locket necklace with old family photos or display these pics at the reception. Photos of the bride and groom as children look lovely at the guest book table.

Use vintage ribbon, lace, buttons or other ornaments on the flower bouquet, wedding dress, veil or as decorative touches.

Shop thrift stores, antique malls and your grandmother’s closet for a vintage purse, clutch, gloves or brooch.

Perch vintage cake toppers on the wedding cake or add a whimsical touch at the dessert bar.

Toasting flutes handed down are perfect for the reception.

Carry a cherished momento in your bridal purse.

Wear something passed down, like a veil, tiara, garter or jewelry. This also meets the “something borrowed” requirement.

Brides can use their imagination and search their mother’s attic or memory box for the “something old” object they cherish. The bridal shower is an opportunity for family members to pass down a keepsake for the bride to use at the wedding or keep afterward. We wish you joy as you hunt for something old.

Lace Wedding Gown

Lace Bridal Gown

Lace is making a comeback in the wedding community, from stunning lace bridal gowns and lace embellishments to elaborate lace wedding accessories. Lace wedding gowns are no longer considered outdated, but rather exude opulent luxury. Wear a beautiful lace veil to complete the look.

While choosing a lace wedding dress can be a difficult challenge, it helps to know what type of lace is most flattering on you. With strong European influences and centuries old pattern designs, lace has been revived through technological advancements and market development. Lace wedding gowns look gorgeous in day or evening weddings, indoor or outdoor weddings and, of course, seasonal or traditional weddings. Lace is also the perfect choice for vintage weddings. Search lace samples for inspiration and to find what kind of lace best suits you.

Different Types of Lace

Re-embroidered Alencon: One of the most popular types of lace for weddings and also one of the most expensive. Re-embroidered Alencon lace is embroidered Chantilly lace. It is a heavy-duty type of lace; capable of handling large quantities of crystal, glass and beaded embellishments.

Chantilly: Features flowers and ribbons on plain netting or organza. Chantilly is the most inexpensive type of lace made.

Duchesse: Belgian lace made in Brussels and named after Marie-Henriette, Duchess of Brabant. She was also later queen of the Belgians. Duchesse is a bobbin lace motif

Guipure: Needlepoint lace made with a heavy buttonhole machine stitch. The motif pattern layout is on a coarse mesh net. Guipure is a French bobbin lace.

Ribbon: A cord of ribbon is used to draw and tie together two opposite edges at random over netting or mesh.

Schiffli: This lace is a type of embroidery made by modern machines, but evolved from a hand version.

Spanish: Venetian needlepoint lace. The Spaniards imported this lace from Italy in the 1700’s. Designed with flat roses on a mesh background.

Venetian: Otherwise known as Venetian needlepoint lace. The motif is a combination of acute-angled points, individually worked separately and linked together by a narrow band, or “footing” stitched with buttonholing.
