National Bridesmaids Day: September 20, 2012

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Pippa Middleton was one.  Julia Roberts played one, and so did Patrick Dempsey.  For centuries Bridesmaids have been relegated to a supporting role complete with puffy sleeves and dyed shoes . . . but those days are over.  [yellow tail] wines is partnering with Universal Studios Home Entertainment and NBCUniversal Digital Distribution to declare September 20, 2011 National Bridesmaid’s Day in celebration of the release of BRIDESMAIDS.

According to the U.S. Census, for the past 20 years the pace of weddings has remained constant: an average of 2.25 to 2.5 million weddings taking place each year.  Moreover, according to TheKnot.com, each wedding has an average of four bridesmaids; meaning each year, some 10 million young women step up to embrace the role of Bridesmaid.

Did you know?

  • The role of a bridesmaid originated centuries ago when friends of the bride would dress the same as the bride in order to confuse evil spirits who were ready to snatch the bride away from her intended.
  • The phrase “often a bridesmaid, but never a bride” originated from a mouthwash advertisement from 1924.
  • The universally known bridesmaid’s curse: “thrice a bridesmaid, never a bride” can be broken by being a bridesmaid seven times.
  • Nearly 6% of bridesmaids confess to having been thrown out of the wedding party, and close to 30% admit they don’t like the person the bride is marrying. (Info courtesty of this press release.)

Fun wedding facts and unique wedding traditions help us remember the often humble origins still honored today.  At AdvantageBridal.com, you can find bridesmaid accessories and bridesmaid gifts that will make your girlfriends proud to be in your wedding.  Say “goodbye” to the outdated, ruffled bridesmaids dresses of past decades and say “hello” to stylish bridesmaid fashions, headpieces and jewelry for the modern wedding.

Are You An Indecisive Bride?

Indecisive Bride

How long does it take you to order at a restaurant? Do you make purchases at the mall or merely window shop? Can’t choose from all those nail polish colors at the salon?

Does this sound anything like you? Chances are, you’re an indecisive bride (sounds better than a wishy washy bride). Wedding planning and indecision don’t mix. Sometimes, you have to make decisions fast. If not, then your wedding venue might be booked, your hairstylist busy, your flowers out of season. . . You get the idea.

Imagine yourself as the CEO of your wedding – complete with checklists, vendor contacts, backup options, spreadsheets, etc.

Decide what you like first! Yes, before you go wedding dress shopping have an idea of what style attracts you. See your makeup artist with several inspiration pics. Write down your favorite colors in order. If you don’t like pink, well, then don’t pick pink bridesmaid dresses or a pink bouquet.

If you’re an indecisive bride, you’ll probably buy something you don’t like because someone talked you into it or convinced you it was the best choice or, even worse, because you waited until the last minute and it’s the only option left!

Wishy washy brides might not want to disappoint an in-law, feel they’ll make the wrong decision or simply can’t decide between so many good choices.

Final warning to indecisive brides: It causes more stress!

Procrastination doesn’t resolve anything.

Make decisions and move on; you’ll feel better and have a sense of accomplishment.

In the end, what matters are the vows between you and your fiance – all the worry will be gone once you walk down the aisle. You’ll forget why you spent countless sleepless nights trying to decide between ivory or white wedding shoes, flower centerpieces or candles, two flower girls or three. Relax and delegate some wedding planning tasks to bridesmaids who enjoy making decisions :)

Fanciful Feather Fascinators For Today’s Brides

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Erica Koesler Diamond White Feather Hair Clip

Fanciful feather fascinators bring a touch of whimsy and carefree style for modern brides. They add the perfect amount of sophistication without being too stuffy. Feather fascinators – also called feather hair clips, feather hair combs or feather headpieces – look beautiful on loose locks and updos for brides, bridesmaids and flower girls. Adding an airy dimension to the bridal attire, feather fascinators showcase the facial features and accentuate the bridal hairstyle. They can be paired with veils to combine the old with the new – birdcage veils with a feather fascinator combine for a fabulous look.

Remember Sarah Jessica Parker in the movie “Sex and the City?” Before Mr. Big ditches the wedding, Carrie Bradshaw makes a stunning appearance with a veil and vintage feather headpiece, which is actually a bird. For the bride wearing a traditional veil and ensemble, consider pairing feather fascinators with the bridesmaids dresses for contrast. Like veils, feather fascinators come in various sizes, colors, textures and ornaments. The airy ostrich feathers move with each passing breeze, while others have a more flirty feel. Feather fascinators can be small and simple or large and ornate for a statement bridal headpiece.

Future British royal Kate Middleton has made feather fascinators and feather embellished hats a fashion accessory for special events. She represents today’s bride and shows that feathers never go out of style. Brides should consult with their hairstylist to ensure the feather fascinator works with the bridal hairstyle.

Groomsmen Frame $12.95

We know that it’s easy to shop for the girls in your wedding party – the maid of honor, bridesmaids, flower girls and mothers – but the guys can be a little more difficult. Maybe it’s because they’re more practical or just that they’re guys!

Unique best man gifts and groomsmen gifts don’t have to cost a fortune. Advantage Bridal has taken the guesswork out of shopping for groomsmen gifts with items for the budget bride, creative bride and the bride who spares no expense. Let your groom, best man and groomsmen know how much you appreciate them in style.

What kinds of gadgets, gizmos and activities are the guys are into? You can use that information as a starting point for buying the ideal groomsman gift. Think about sending the groomsmen on a spa day for guys or spoil them with a round of golf outing, a weekend of fishing or tickets to their favorite baseball game.

Perhaps the groomsman is a wine aficionado, beer guy, sports fan, music lover, techie, reader or into hobbies, such as fishing or collecting. Of course, there’s always the go-to options like key rings, wallets, pocket knives, money clips and beer steins. Or, perhaps a theme gift basket filled with man goodies will win him over.

Another option is buying the groomsmen something they can use or wear during the wedding, such as cuff links or the Mindy Weiss personalzied tie. The hardest part will be choosing, but brides can’t go wrong with personalized groomsmen gifts for a unique statement. Advantage Bridal offers personalized gifts for groomsmen, including personalized pocket watches, personalized beer mugs, personalized travel accessories, personalized coolers, personalized spa accessories and so much more!

The key to finding the perfect groomsman gift is to get to know each one on a personal level (ask your fiance if you need to). Believe it or not, shopping for groomsmen gifts can be just as fun as buying bridesmaid gifts – it just takes a little more effort!
