How A Bride Becomes Bridezilla

Saturday, June 9th, 2012
Becoming Bridezilla

A bride becomes Bridezilla over time until, one day, she’s so comfortable in her new role she forgets the sweet girlfriend she used to be.

Bridezillas on WeTV makes some brides look not so nice (of course, that’s a sugar-coated statement). Decide what type of bride you want to be during the wedding planning process, and learn to let things go. Why?

Because a bride taking on the persona of giant sea monster named Godzilla is a frightening thought. And you’ll scare those closest to you with the “it’s all about me” attitude that surfaced once the engagement ring was on.

5 tips to avoid becoming Bridezilla:

  • Decide to plan a stress-free wedding.
  • Forgive and forget.
  • Always have back-up options.
  • Communicate calmly and honestly.
  • Remember, two of you are getting married.

For some brides-to-be, this is easier said than done. If you’re a Type A personality or you simply want things done your way – now, then the road to success might be a little rocky. But it can be done.

Reflect on why you said “yes” to your honey in the first place. Write down your feelings in a journal rather than hash out on others. Exercise: Try yoga, long walks or a gym class to get your mind off the wedding. Vent to a bridesmaid or friend, but don’t overwhelm them.

More important than the planning is the ceremony itself. The vows unite you as husband and wife. Yes, we all want a flawless affair, a memorable event, a to-die-for reception, but don’t you want to marry the man of your dreams more than anything?

Hopefully, the population of Bridezillas will die off over time (figuratively speaking) and the beautiful brides men fell in love with will take their place. That depends on you, of course.

If you’re a bridesmaid or relative of a bridal monster, CNN offers these tips.

Novelist Ayn Rand perhaps unintentionally paid tribute to Bridezilla in this quote: “The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”

And that type of thinking is how a bride becomes Bridezilla. . .

Celebrity Bridesmaids

Celebrity brides get all the attention, but what about celebrity bridesmaids? Sometimes the star takes center stage, even if she doesn’t mean to, as was the case with bridesmaid Jessica Biel’s gorgeous two-piece ensemble at a friend’s wedding in Bronxsville, New York, in May 2011.

Each maid wore a different style and color dress, while Jessica’s cowl neck silk top and floral embroidered skirt stole the show with its intricate, subtle design and hues. We’re loving her dark brown locks, too; such pretty contrast with the dress.

This isn’t the first time Jessica Biel walked the aisle as a maid. She was a bridemaid for friend and 7th Heaven co-star Beverly Mitchell’s wedding in Italy in 2008. The girls in the wedding party wore matching brown gowns by the Melissa Sweet Vineyard collection.

Many stars have played the supporting role to the bride, such as Jessica Alba, Tory Spelling, Kate Bosworth and Jennifer Garner. Check out this album of celebrity bridesmaids by Celebrity Bride Guide.

Even the stars get stuck in frocks that we would never wear in public again. . .

If single, these ladies will one day be celebrity brides.

As the world watched the royal wedding procession, some were surprised to see maid of honor Pippa Middleton and the young bridal party wearing white bridesmaid dresses. This immediately sparked a new wedding trend for modern brides. Replicas of Pippa Middleton’s gown hit stores after her white bridesmaid dress debuted – it was an instant hit!

The monochromatic scheme looks stunning and the bride can easily stand out with few key accessories, like a veil, tiara, bridal belt and bold wedding shoes. Kate Middleton’s wedding dress boasted a fuller skirt, long train, lace sleeves and more detailed design, while Pippa Middleton’s white bridesmaid dress conveyed a simpler style that gave nod to her role without stealing the spotlight from the bride.

Not brave enough or still unsure about having white bridesmaid dresses? Try a subtle hue like the champagne gowns pictured below. Another popular wedding trend is to have the bridesmaids wear different styles down the aisle. With various style white bridesmaids gowns, the bride will certainly stand out as she enters the ceremony. Personalize Bridesmaids Flower Bouquets

Bouquet: Holly Heider Chapple Photo: Genevieve Leiper

Personlize your bridesmaids bouquets in a unique, understated way! Add that personal touch to your bridesmaid floral bouquets with fun ribbon details. Use different printed or embroidered ribbon for each bridesmaid bouquet or add bouquet jewelry to dress them up. Intimate wedding details such as these let your bridesmaids know how special they are. We love this idea by Holly Heider Chapple Flowers. Ask your wedding florist or shop local craft stores for fun, printed ribbon that match the bouquets and your bridesmaids’ personalities. Don’t forget about the flower girl, too!  Tie some pretty, personalized ribbon around the flower girl basket for that special detail.
