Wedding Theme: All Things “Tiffany Blue”

Friday, August 24th, 2012

While couples spend a pretty penny shopping for engagement rings at Tiffany & Co., at least the brides-to-be will also walk out with an infamous Tiffany Blue Box® to cherish for years to come. Tiffany Blue – the trademark color known as Robin’s egg blue or forget-me-not blue – first appeared in the Tiffany & Co. catalog in 1978.

Turquoise gemstones were popular among Victorian brides during the 19th Century, so the color was derived from this wedding trend. Tiffany Blue remains as fashionable today. Modern brides can incorporate this glamorous color into their wedding theme, with either subtle hints of Tiffany Blue or full-blown obsession with the trademark Tiffany color.

Inspired by the Tiffany Blue Box®, Advantage Bridal carries wedding accessories and bridal accessories in the hue that’s been on the scene for more than a century. The Tiffany-inspired plush ring pillow, which resembles that little blue box, is wrapped in matte aqua satin and tied with double-faced satin ribbon. The flower girl basket matches the ring pillow, so the littlest ones in the wedding party can shine carrying these Tiffany-inspired wedding accessories. Tiffany Blue favor boxes look adorable on the reception tables.

What about a Tiffany Blue bridal shower or Tiffany Blue wedding party gifts? Advantage Bridal carries unique gifts, such as adorable custom rhinestone tanks, wedding albums and new spa wraps in our version of Tiffany Blue.

For girls’ only gatherings or bachelorette parties, have friends wear their little black dress for a Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme party complete with Tiffany Blue party accessories. Chocolate brown and diamond white look beautiful with shades inspired by the Tiffany Blue Box®. It’s amazing how one little blue box, tied with a white satin ribbon, is a source of inspiration for brides, wedding planners and designers. Classy . . . elegant . . . glamorous.

The Bridal Shower Tradition

Saturday, March 17th, 2012

bridal shower

The bridal shower tradition dates back to Brussels, Belgium around 1860, but it continues to be a popular celebration today. Bridal showers are traditionally a gift-giving party in honor of the bride before her wedding. Primarily a U.S. and Canadian practice, bridal showers are generally given by the maid of honor and bridesmaids. It is usually attended by women, though in more recent years, couples may attend a “jack and jill” shower together. Regardless of who attends, the shower is intended for guests to give gifts for the home or primarily for the bride since the groom generally doesn’t attend. Shop for unique bridal shower gifts at AdvantageBridal.com.

A bridal shower is usually celebrated  4-6 weeks before the wedding day.  The word “shower” comes from the Victorian times when dowries were going by the wayside because money was scarce. Oftentimes, a parasol was put in the packages for the bride and groom.  Loosely, it was intended as a pun for “showering” the couple with gifts instead of a dowry as used to be the custom.

Bridal showers have taken on many meanings over the years. One of the most lasting meanings of a bridal shower is that it is a time when the female members of the bride’s family show the bride how her role will be in her marriage.  This role is thought to be more of an homage to the mothers and grandmothers rather than a reflection of how the bride will actually behave in the marriage.

Regardless of it’s history, bridal showers are fun to plan and to attend!  And for your bridal shower needs, Advantage Bridal is here to help!  We have everything you could ever need for planning and hosting a bridal shower.  Check out our large selection of bridal shower invitations, bridal shower favors, and bridal shower games. Wedding Etiquette Essentials

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Wedding etiquette plays an important role in planning for the big day, so couples shouldn’t overlook the significance of manners – from wedding invitations to the guest list and from thank you cards to the bridal shower. Emily Post is a great resource for everyone involved in wedding planning or invited to the memorable affair, including the bride, groom, family members and guests.

Even with social media, blended families and other unique situations, Emily Post provides valuable wedding etiquette advice that continually evolves. Founded in 1946, the Emily Post Institute studies the evolution of how manners change over time and vary depending on location and culture. The family business spans five generations. Peggy Post writes The Well-Mannered Wedding column for The New York Times.

Here she addresses a question from a reader regarding bringing the plus-one guest. Being polite and practicing good manners are always in style.

Who Deserves Plus-One Status?

My boyfriend and I have had several heated discussions regarding the etiquette of inviting guests with a plus-one. He thinks everyone should get a plus-one, all other factors aside. I think that only guests in a serious relationship (i.e. long term, living together) should warrant a plus-one invitation. Can you settle the debate?

Monica A., Berkeley, Calif.

Let’s avoid sending either one of you to the etiquette penalty box. Today’s standard plus-one is someone who is married to, engaged to, living with and, yes, in a long-term relationship with the invited wedding guest. Beyond these “must invites,” your plus-one decisions will be based on budget and consistency. If it’s only a few and it’s not a budget buster, you might consider asking them all. But if that’s not the case (and let’s be realistic here), come up with a clear parameter. Even so, without a plus-one invitation, some of your single guests may not want to attend. In the end, that’s their choice.

Note to guests: You didn’t get a plus-one invitation and you have a new boyfriend? Be empathetic and don’t take offense. Be happy that you’re one of the “must be there” people on the bride and bridegroom’s guest list.

Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue

Vintage Style Couture Lace Bridal Garter

It’s fun to incorporate meaningful elements into your wedding, such as “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe.” Subtle details can fulfill this traditional bridal saying that is thought to be bring the bride good luck and a long, happy marriage. “Something old” symbolizes continuity with the bride’s family and the past while moving to the next chapter.

Ideas for something old:

Family heirlooms, antique pieces, vintage relics or sentimental objects can fill the “something old” wedding tradition.

Look to moms, aunts, grandparents or someone close to you for trinkets that you can use in your wedding, like a handkerchief or charm wrapped around your bouquet.

Wear a locket necklace with old family photos or display these pics at the reception. Photos of the bride and groom as children look lovely at the guest book table.

Use vintage ribbon, lace, buttons or other ornaments on the flower bouquet, wedding dress, veil or as decorative touches.

Shop thrift stores, antique malls and your grandmother’s closet for a vintage purse, clutch, gloves or brooch.

Perch vintage cake toppers on the wedding cake or add a whimsical touch at the dessert bar.

Toasting flutes handed down are perfect for the reception.

Carry a cherished momento in your bridal purse.

Wear something passed down, like a veil, tiara, garter or jewelry. This also meets the “something borrowed” requirement.

Brides can use their imagination and search their mother’s attic or memory box for the “something old” object they cherish. The bridal shower is an opportunity for family members to pass down a keepsake for the bride to use at the wedding or keep afterward. We wish you joy as you hunt for something old.
