Wedding Shoe Options for Taller Brides

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

What’s it like to be a tall woman? Well, you can reach the top of the fridge. Your legs look great in just about everything. And if you gain five pounds over the holidays, it’s not even noticeable on your graceful frame. But it can bring some awkward dilemmas in the wardrobe department, especially when you’ve fallen in love with a man whose stature is close to your own. While shopping for The Big Day, you’ve surely thought about wedding shoes. You may have given thought to the design, but knowing what type of heel you are looking for should be your first objective in shoe shopping.

If you are only looking to add a minimal amount of height you can opt for kitten heel shoes, which usually max out at an inch and a half in heel height. Kitten heels were known as young girls’ “trainer heels” in the 1950s until they were popularized by the lovely style icon Audrey Hepburn. Known for their modest height but sexy heel shape, they are an excellent choice for the bride who doesn’t want to tower over her groom yet still wants just a bit of an upgrade over flats.

Peep Toe Kitten Heels

Brides who want to remain more grounded in their wedding attire can select flats and skimmers. Some of each season’s most fashionable and attractive shoes are flats. Ballet shoes are a popular style which complement vintage or romantic themes. It’s a given that all women love flats for their comfort and ease of wear—not only are they free of pinches and pains, but they also allow brides to enjoy themselves on the dance floor. Flats are perfect for girls who want to get their groove on! They are also the perfect option for outdoor weddings, where the terrain can be rocky or grassy. Tall brides can choose from a range of styles now that flats have become fashionable with wearers of all heights.

As a bride who measures on the tall side, it’s important to remember that your height is a part of your physical beauty. Like you’ve probably heard before, stand up straight! You can’t hide your height but you can definitely rock it like a supermodel. Did Nicole Kidman ever look BAD on Tom Cruise’s arm despite their four inch difference in height? Do you ever see Katie Holmes slouching next to him? These girls know they are gorgeous on their own and that standing next to a guy who is slightly shorter does not detract from their beauty. Embrace your sexy frame and find that pair of bridal shoes which allows you to feel confident and regal–any difference of inches will go unnoticed when your guests see you smiling radiantly like the goddess you are.

Bridesmaid Shoes: To Match or Not To Match?

Matching Yellow Bridesmaid Shoes Photo: Todd Pellowe

Above, the matching knee length royal blue dresses contrast beautifully with various yellow shoes. It looks polished but not overdone.

The debate continues. . . matching bridesmaid dresses and/or matching shoes? It depends what look you’re going for. If you like the clean, monochromatic look of the same gowns, then why not let them wear different – but coordinating – footwear? It also saves some cash for the maids who can select a style they’d wear again.

Below, the bride wears the same shoes as the bridesmaids, while the neckline of their dresses mimics that of the bridal gown. Love the deep purple bridesmaids gowns and matching fuschia flats with bows.

Celebrity bridesmaid Jessica Biel wears a two piece ensemble. Photo: Celebrity Bride Guide

Celebrity brides get all the attention, but what about celebrity bridesmaids? Sometimes the star takes center stage, even if she doesn’t mean to, as was the case with bridesmaid Jessica Biel’s gorgeous two-piece ensemble at a friend’s wedding in Bronxsville, New York, in May 2011.

Each maid wore a different style and color dress, while Jessica’s cowl neck silk top and floral embroidered skirt stole the show with its intricate, subtle design and hues. We’re loving her dark brown locks, too; such pretty contrast with the dress.

This isn’t the first time Jessica Biel walked the aisle as a maid. She was a bridemaid for friend and 7th Heaven co-star Beverly Mitchell’s wedding in Italy in 2008. The girls in the wedding party wore matching brown gowns by the Melissa Sweet Vineyard collection.

Many stars have played the supporting role to the bride, such as Jessica Alba, Tory Spelling, Kate Bosworth and Jennifer Garner. Check out this album of celebrity bridesmaids by Celebrity Bride Guide.

Even the stars get stuck in frocks that we would never wear in public again. . .

If single, these ladies will one day be celebrity brides.

Celebrity Inspired Wedding Ideas. . .

Princess Grace Kelly

So maybe you don’t make millions each year, but you can still plan a celebrity inspired wedding by following their lead.

We all want to throw our dream wedding and give guests something they’ll remember for a long time. But don’t feel obligated to go over budget just so you can have bragging rights with your sister. . .

Stars hire some of the best celebrity wedding planners in the business – they are ahead of the trends, leave no detail untouched and personalize weddings based on each couple.

Follow these tips and you’ll have a lavish affair just like the stars:

  1. Thoughtful Favors: Think beyond favors that match your colors or coordinate with your theme, and consider giving guests something unique they can cherish. Whether it’s a cultural, environmental or personal token, put some thought into your wedding favors like celebs do. Even if you can’t send guests home with gift baskets, you can give unique favors that represent you and your hubby.
  2. Rustic Touches: More celebrities are incorporating rustic, natural elements into their wedding decor. Cut floral centerpieces are being replaced by branches, moss, succulents, potted herbs and plants. Outdoor weddings on ranches or wineries are popular with celebs and make beautiful backdrops. The contrast of rustic and romantic play beautifully in photographs.
  3. Bridal Veils: Birdcage veils and feather fascinators took center stage the past few seasons, but veils are making a comeback in a big way. No longer are they thought to be only a traditional bridal accessory. With so many styles and lengths, there is a veil for every type of bride. And wearing it at the reception is OK, too.
  4. First Dance: Strut your stuff with your new hubby and wow guests with your first dance. Thanks to popular TV shows (such as Dancing With the Stars) celebs are thinking big when they hit the dance floor. Get rid of your two left feet and take dance classes to master your first dance – the waltz, fox trot, rumba or jive.
  5. Groom Cake: Celebrity brides are letting the grooms share some of the fun. Groom cakes are gaining popularity with celebs, as well as “man food” menu choices. It’s no longer all about the bride. . .

Check out these celebrity hairstyles for your wedding day on Style Bistro.

Don’t forget, Advantage Bridal carries thousands of favors and custom wedding accessories for your black & white wedding, themed wedding or rustic romantic wedding, as well as veils and couture bridal accessories for the celebrity inspired bride.

Custom Bridal Shoes

Lily Allen Wears Custom Bridal Gown & Wedding Shoes Photo: Landov

Another beautiful bride and her beau: British singer Lily Allen married Sam Cooper on June 11 in an intimate ceremony in England (aka the Cotswolds village of Cranham).

The bride wore a Parisian lace gown by Delphine Manivet and two pairs of custom bridal shoes by Rupert Sanderson.

Underneath her flowing dress, Lily’s feet were adorned with custom Hydra bridal shoes in a mixture of iridescent pearled suedes and boasting 5½-inch heels, according to a press release. Yes, you read that right, the pregnant bride walked the aisle in towering peep-toe heels!

She also chose a pair of Rossini bridal flats in the same colors for the evening reception.

“Lily loved the simplicity, elegance and subtle sexiness of Rupert Sanderson’s shoes.”

On working with Lily, Rupert said: “I’m thrilled to have made Lily’s shoes for her big day. She’s a joy to work with, knows what she likes and what she looks great in – we had a lot of fun. I made her two pairs, a sky high pair of Hydra’s and a pair of flats – both in a combination of silk and pearled suedes.”

Check out the statement heels Lily chose for the big day below and don’t forget Advantage Bridal carries designer bridal shoes and affordable wedding shoes in various colors and styles, including Benjamin Adams London, Paradox London, Liz Rene Couture Collection, Jen and Kim bridal shoes and bridal flats…

Royal Wedding

Bridal Shoes by Alexander McQueen Team

With all the fuss about the royal wedding dress, we forgot one of the most important accessories to a bride’s ensemble – the shoes!

“The wedding shoes were hand-made by the team at Alexander McQueen and are made of ivory duchesse satin with lace hand-embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework,” according to the royal wedding website.

The heels perfectly complement the custom gown that took endless hours to create.

Kate Middleton’s dress honors the arts and crafts tradition, with a romantic design and materials true to that time – and her heels are no exception.

The exquisite details underscore the subtle designs of the dress. These gorgeous bridal shoes are truly one-of-a-kind and fit for a princess.

But, you can find your own pair that reflects your idea of a regal bride.

The Duchess of Cambridge opted for an overall classic, romantic look. Traditional brides or romantic brides can make a similar fashion statement with lace details, ivory shoes and other elements that mimic bygone eras with modern appeal.

The royal wedding rekindled bridal trends such as lace, veils, tiaras, gowns with sleeves, ivory tones and traditional with a twist.

Shop for your royal wedding accessories at Advantage Bridal, where we carry everything from royal blue wedding shoes to couture heels and rhinestone tiaras to hand-embroidered veils.
