Traditional Fruit Cake Chosen for Royal Wedding Photo: Fiona Cairns

Princes, princesses and royal weddings. Sounds like a fairy tale, but one of the most anticipated events is less than a month away. While we don’t know what designer gown Kate Middleton will wear, sources say the creator of the royal wedding cake is Fiona Cairns Ltd. The multi-tiered traditional fruit cake will be decorated with cream and white icing, and a British floral theme using the Joseph Lambeth technique. Fiona Cairns began baking miniature cakes at her home in 1985 before opening a bakery now based in Leicestershire. She is known for quality ingredients and luxurious cakes. Check out her website for inspiration; Fiona and her team are master bakers with an eye for exceptional detail.

The McVitie’s Cake Company also confirmed that it will make a chocolate biscuit cake for the royal wedding reception. McVitie’s – now part of the United Biscuits Group – has made many of the cakes for weddings and christening of member of the royal family since the marriage of His Majesty King George V to HM Queen Mary. They also made the official anniversary cake for The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s 60th wedding anniversary in 2007, according to a press release. Just love the idea of honoring family tradition!

It’s official, Reese Witherspoon and Hollywood agent Jim Toth married in a small ceremony on Saturday, March 26, 2011. The celebrity couple wed at Witherspoon’s Ojai Valley estate in a “Southern style” affair surrounded by candles and flowers to create an intimate mood, reports Hollyscoop. Approximately 100 guests attended the wedding, including Witherspoon’s two children Ava and Deacon. Reese Witherspoon, 34, and Jim Toth, 40, were engaged late last year and the two were said to have instant chemistry. Toth worked with jeweler William Goldberg to design the perfect diamond engagement ring for his bride-to-be, according to US Magazine. The 4 carat Ashoka cut diamond ring sits on a pave diamond-and-platinum band – just gorgeous!

When photos surface, we expect to see Reese wearing a custom bridal gown by Monique Lhuillier. During her engagement, she was seen shopping at designer boutiques in Paris and L.A. As one of Hollywood’s beloved actresses, Reese Witherspoon became widely recognized after starring in Legally Blonde in 2001. From modern bridal bouquets and wedding favors to stunning centerpieces and reception decor, consider succulents for your eco-chic event that is friendly on the eyes and earth! With spring here and summer fast approaching, succulents make great flower decorations for warm weather and outdoor weddings. Plus, they can be planted later for long-term enjoyment. Succulents definitely aren’t the typical fresh-cut floral bouquet and that alone can save money in the long run.

If you don’t want to do the entire wedding in succulent plants, you can pair them with roses and other flowers for beautiful contrast. The various hues of greens, grays and soft pinks provide an excellent backdrop for the bridal bouquet, but these drought-tolerant plants can also be the statement piece. Green weddings can be chic and there are plenty of modern brides who have proved that! Check out the gorgeous bridal bouquet below accented with a peacock feather. Rumors Surface About Royal Wedding Gown

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

How will Kate Middleton distinguish herself as the next royal bride? Three decades have passed since Lady Diana Spencer captured more than 700 million TV viewers as she stepped out in the “wedding dress of the century,” setting the trend for the next 15-20 years. Kate Middleton’s bridal gown is expected to do the same, although she will have a style distinctly her own.

Of course, most remember what the People’s Princess wore when she married Prince Charles in 1981. “The dress was groundbreaking for its tight bodice, cinched waist and what seemed like miles and miles of taffeta, silk and lace,” said renowned dressmaker Elizabeth Emanuel, who co-designed Princess Diana’s dress.

Kate will likely choose something classic with “edgy” details that push the fashion boundary just a bit. But don’t expect to see a modern revival of Diana’s dress, as the soon-to-be royal bride has carved her own niche in the world of royal fashion.

“It’s such a big event, with billions watching, you cannot make mistakes. There is no second chance, it has to be perfect,” Emanuel said in an interview with the Associated Press.

Sarah Burton, creative director of the Alexander McQueen house, is rumored to be the designer behind Kate Middleton’s wedding gown. If so, her name will forever be embedded in history as a fashion icon. Despite the leak, however, the designer denies reports that she is creating what will be one of the most coveted dresses in modern bridal fashion.

Sarah Burton was formerly Alexander McQueen’s right-hand woman, until he died last year. Alexander McQueen was recognized as the British Designer of the Year four times, and his legacy will continue if Burton does in fact design the royal wedding dress.

Though Kate Middleton is often photographed with her loosely curled locks, many anticipate her hair will be worn up. Until the royal wedding, we can only speculate. Will she wear a cascading veil and tiara? What flowers will adorn her bouquet? Which designer wedding shoes will the princess in waiting choose? Diamond jewelry or pearls?

Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue

Vintage Style Couture Lace Bridal Garter

It’s fun to incorporate meaningful elements into your wedding, such as “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe.” Subtle details can fulfill this traditional bridal saying that is thought to be bring the bride good luck and a long, happy marriage. “Something old” symbolizes continuity with the bride’s family and the past while moving to the next chapter.

Ideas for something old:

Family heirlooms, antique pieces, vintage relics or sentimental objects can fill the “something old” wedding tradition.

Look to moms, aunts, grandparents or someone close to you for trinkets that you can use in your wedding, like a handkerchief or charm wrapped around your bouquet.

Wear a locket necklace with old family photos or display these pics at the reception. Photos of the bride and groom as children look lovely at the guest book table.

Use vintage ribbon, lace, buttons or other ornaments on the flower bouquet, wedding dress, veil or as decorative touches.

Shop thrift stores, antique malls and your grandmother’s closet for a vintage purse, clutch, gloves or brooch.

Perch vintage cake toppers on the wedding cake or add a whimsical touch at the dessert bar.

Toasting flutes handed down are perfect for the reception.

Carry a cherished momento in your bridal purse.

Wear something passed down, like a veil, tiara, garter or jewelry. This also meets the “something borrowed” requirement.

Brides can use their imagination and search their mother’s attic or memory box for the “something old” object they cherish. The bridal shower is an opportunity for family members to pass down a keepsake for the bride to use at the wedding or keep afterward. We wish you joy as you hunt for something old.

Dazzling Bridal Bouquet Ornaments

Rhinestone & Crystal Bouquet Picks

An easy way to personalize a bride’s wedding bouquet is to add small details that make it truly unique. Bouquet jewelry, rhinestone and crystal picks, stem embellishments, and monogrammed ribbon do just that. For spring weddings, the following crystal accents add a whimsical touch to the flowers: butterflies, bumble bees, hearts, jewel clusters, flowers, starbursts, dragonflies, starfish, initial letters and other creative designs that will set your bouquet apart.

While pictures and magazines provide inspiration, select flowers and bridal bouquet jewelry that speak to your heart. Brides should look at their flower bunch and smile, even if only they appreciate each beautiful piece that went into the floral work of art. Besides, the wedding photographer will capture plenty of photographs of the bouquet for lasting memories.

When choosing a single flower for your bouquet, then jeweled accents really pop. We at Advantage Bridal love the look of the crystal stem accents; they come in various shapes and say “glamour.” Bouquet jewelry, flower picks and floral sprays can be made of rhinestones, crystals or pearls, as well as a combination of dazzling touches. Flower jewels in various colors are also available.

Brides can splurge a little on the wedding bouquet if they’re cutting the cost of decorative wedding flowers and centerpieces. Another option is a silk bridal bouquet, ribbon bouquet or crystal bouquet that can be stored and passed down. This eliminates the need to preserve the flowers and guarantees a unique flower bouquet.
